I was "inspired" by a thread on the Classic TV board to ask to smart and intellectually stimulating question.

A Fart can hit more notes.

Same here. Even The Archies are better than today's top 40.

I recieved my Road Trips(summer of 71)Vol.1 #3 and the bonus cd yesterday. I brought them to work as I drive a truck and have plenty of time to listen. Just so happens I am training a new driver,..he's an older fella from Maine... very square but in an interesting way. I subjected him to all three discs, afterwards I asked "So Charlie,.. Did you want me to make you copies of those Grateful Dead cd's ? ... I kinda got the feeling you really enjoyed them"
He looked at me dumbfounded and said very kindly "ohh,.. uhmm.. Naw.. no need to go through all that trouble, I don't have much time for listening to music."
I laughed and asked him if was glad that I wasn't into hip hop or rap. He said the Dead was a bit more tollerable than that crap.
Guess I won't have to worry about Charlie lifting my cd's anytime soon.

I have no clue what's even in the top 40 - though I was tickled to see that Van Morrison had his first-ever number one album just a month or so ago. I haven't run out and bought it, but I was glad to see him up there.

I make my bread & butter in the Top 40 biz. Hit music radio, that is, and I'd dare say I'm more familiar with what's going on with it than anybody else here. Not bragging, mind you, especially since it looks like no one would see it as something to brag about, and I don't, either. But it is what it's always been: some worse than a fart, some better. I did get Van's new single several weeks ago--didn't do very much at all on the chart, as I expected it certainly wouldn't, but just as it was when Van himself was really a "relevant" Top 40 contender (let's remember, folks: just because it's a hit, does not imply whatsoever that it sucks at all), it's good music, plain and simple. And lest we forget: Touch of Grey was a Top 10 smash in 1987.

Lots of catchy tunes on the Top 40, though, and I'm glad that, even at my advanced age, I'm still as up to date with what's on it as I was when I was kid listening faithfully to Casey Kasem every week while he counted 'em down--all the way to #1.

Keep your feet on the ground . . . and keep reaching for the stars!

i think it may depend on who's doing the farting. That having been said a fart is better than the pablum being fed to the masses disguised as music.

Peace
